Producers and musicians from Germany

Henri and Nico, tension and release or in short: tandr

Young and not impressed by industry standards they started producing professionally as a Duo just around the time the Pandemic hit the world.

From the beginning on their philosophy of producing music, which was heavily influenced by Rick Rubin and Timbaland, was very important to them. At the core of their understanding of the creative act they believe that there is a sweetspot in every artist at which emotional impact and the music itself form their strongest connection. So it is their mission to find and develop this sweetspot in every session and artist they work with. To reach this goal it is most important to understand the artist, their background and intentions. This requires an empathic and joyful environment in which there is no outside pressure whatsoever. Furthermore it is important to the producer duo to experiment with the artist. That way they gain an understanding of how far they can go away from an original idea without sacrificing their identity and intentions.

EVE Audio monitors as their most important gear

For the two young producers the most important piece of tech is their 4-way Eve Audio monitoring system. Two crystal clear SC305 satellites combined with two powerful TS108 Subwoofers mounted into the absorption wall produce a massive while differentiated sound. They say it is the best way to configure a setup of this size because two subwoofers create less hearable standing waves in the low frequency spectrum. The System is linked through a DSP unit to ensure that the delays and frequency bands of each speaker can be set up without any limitation. Combine this first class monitoring setup with a room that is treated well enough to be acoustically flat to as low as 50Hz while maintaining a homely and pleasant look, then you got tandr.studio.

Using live instruments and technology

Live instruments play a huge role in tandr’s understanding of making music. Despite the fact that most modern music they produce is made in the box it is very important to them to play the songs on real instruments during the session. They argue that it helps them to understand the song structure and dynamics more and by elevating it out of the digital realm it becomes more tangible for quick changes in tempo and key. But all of this is only one half of the equation. On the other side there must be absolutely reliable and razor sharp technology. Make sure to check out their website or Instagram!
